Is it Worth It?
Many asks is it really worth going into business on your own? I ponder upon this question a million or billion times thinking if it is really worth risking a 9-5 job. It is tempting to answer with a "YES" but then at the back of my mind, it is a hell no!
But as you can see I quit my job and focused on the business I have with my sister. As I mentioned in my first blog, we experience hurdles, considering the stiff competition out there in the fashion industry, particularly apparel. It ain't easy to be honest. But the exciting part is thinking of innovations to fit in again in an industry, whose players are as competitive as us.
Another frustrating thing is how to win over your prospective clients amidst all the thousands clothing businesses out there, who offers the same products and services and getting a portion of these clients can really be difficult. You see, clients are the life of any business that no matter what you do if they will not avail of your products, they will never give you their time of day, unless you are in a food industry (just assuming). They are also hard to satisfy as they will look for something else that you do not have (I know because I am one). Even if your services is of quality, that is nothing to clients you cannot satisfy.
Lastly, not all the people you care about will be there to support you. There will be those who will look and check your products, but you will never feel the support. And there are people who just do not give a damn. It came to a point where I felt that it is better to give up since no one wanted to even avail of your products (well except my sister and my husband). Some will just give you false reassurance. How much more infuriating could that be.
To answer the question, "Is it still worth it?" Of course it is. Amidst these obstacles, it is challenging enough to manage a business and join in the craziness of competition and bustles of creativity. After all, business is meant to struggle with dozens of new ideas and innovations. It is all a matter of perspective. As they say, we can never please everyone, but you can always change your strategies. Business is a gamble, either you win or lose but quitting is never an option. Business gives people the opportunity to always try again, try something new and inspire others to be the best that they can be. Business provides people with failures to learn and change. So why will I give up? There is nothing certain in this world, only CHANGE. With change, we can be whatever we want to be. Plus, I get to meet new people with diverse backgrounds.
At the end of the day, what matters is how you learned and survived amidst all tribulations. I can fail and quit or fail and stand, after all the choice is mine. It will always be an endless process of learning, which is stimulating to my brain. Success is easy but it does not come without a price. I am not giving up and I deter to fall without a fight! :)
P.S.
I need to use the things I learned in school, for both my undergrad and graduate degrees in Entrepreneurship. Now my sister comes in handy for her degree in Fashion Merchandising. I do not want to put those into waste. Hahahaha
